Devlog 09: Polish Sprint


Main menu

Our main menu finally came to life! As players open the game they immediately get shown the vibrant world of Bikin' Ice.

Item behavior

For the first week of the polish sprint, we decided to refine the way our items interact with the world.

  • The thumbtack now spawns smoother, growing while being deployed from a more realistic throwing height.
  • The pizza item now keeps its height relative to the platform below, so it doesn't bounce against the floor when thrown out on a slope.
  • Coins now spawn in clusters in certain areas of the map. There are now 4 clusters that spawn 4 to 8 coins, when they are all grabbed, a new coin cluster will spawn after a while.

Item Colors

The items and props in the game were given some attention. They will shine with new colors and give the game an overall colorfull look!


Improved scene

The whole scene has been improved, with a smoother beach, smoother paths and nice borders for the paths and area's the whole scene looks just that little bit more nice!


Improved HUD/Player feedback

  • The player HUD is improved, we made it so the coin clusters are marked on the map.
  • The leading player with the most coins is now also highlighted by a beam.
  • A ticking sound will now play when the game is coming to an end.

World objects

  • Objects in the world now interact with the player.
  • Barrels can be pushed around, respawning after a certain amount of time. 
  • Vases are placed throughout the world, shattering and making a nice sound on impact.

Camera improvements

There was a small bug where the camera would jitter when the player jumped without moving forwards, this has since been fixed.

The camera for the 4th screen in 3-player mode is now improved. It will now look at whether players are actually visible (not behind geometry) before deciding which camera will be displayed.
