Devlog 05: Polishing the core


Intro

This is the last week of our first sprint, our goal was to finish the gameplay loop and have the blockout of the environment representing the final level. We had to rethink some of the design to lure out more combat in the gameplay. We also added our character animations, item pickup visuals and updated the procedural house tool!

Item pickup

We now have a new visual for our item box!

Procedural house tool

We added random roofs and modular assets to the buildings.

Character

Our character now has its first working idle animation!

Peep the tricycle? It has now been fully adjusted to fit our character's needs! 🚴


Gotta go fast!

We've added player feedback and changes to the feeling of the movement and controls. Player can now cycle faster, throw homing pizzas and really feel the hits and interaction while playing! 

On top of this, visuals now also match the movement and a trail will be rendered while sliding.
 

Environment tunnels, jumps and more!

Quite a lot has been added to the level! First of all jumps have been added that require you to jump from plaza 2 to 3. This gives an extra challenge, so try not to fall in the water! Time your jump right and you will be able to collect some coins during the jump too. The "secret" way from plaza 2 to plaza 1 has been made a bit more clear by adding coins in front and on the barrels. Do you quickly want to return from plaza 3 to plaza 1? You can do this by falling in the pit that brings you to the tunnel! This tunnel will be full with coins, so it might even be a good idea to take a ride inside even when you already are on plaza 1. Want to take a break from all the crazy action that takes place on the plazas? Then you might want to visit the loop road. This road takes you off plaza 2 but... brings you right back into plaza 2 afterwards. This road is fully made to just take a break from action and collect some coins on your own. Explore the level, but not too fast! Have fun!


Items update!

The thumbtack model was added to the game, you can now trap the other players in an even more hurtfull way! 😈

And also a new coin design! This will not be the final design, but we're surely getting there!


In progress 🛠️

With the core gameplay coming to an end, development has started on the audio side. All the code is in place and we started with a few simple sound effects for the time being.
